What does the evaluation even mean?

Psychoeducational evaluations are indeed complex and can be quite costly, but they provide invaluable insights into your child's abilities and challenges. With a wealth of information at hand, it becomes crucial to understand the implications of these evaluations and how they can be utilized to benefit your child.

At our organization, we aim to guide you through this process, shedding light on what each section of the evaluation reveals about your child. By comprehending the results, you can gain a deeper understanding of how they impact your child's learning, achievement, confidence, and overall progress. Armed with this knowledge, we collaborate with you and your child's school to devise a tailored plan that meets your child's specific needs.

Throughout the entire journey, our team provides unwavering support, ensuring that you are fully informed and empowered to make well-informed decisions. Together, we navigate the complexities of the education system, advocating for your child and ensuring that their educational experience is optimized. With our guidance, you can confidently embark on this journey, armed with the knowledge and tools to support your child's growth and success.

Is what the school is offering appropriate?

Does the proposed IEP match the evaluation findings?

Once the psychoeducational evaluation has been thoroughly analyzed, it becomes significantly simpler to comprehend the educational support provided by the school for your child. It is essential to assess how each accommodation or modification directly targets the specific areas in which your child requires assistance. We will carefully examine the proposed plan in collaboration with you and assist you in advocating for your child. Our ultimate objective is to ensure your child's ongoing success and academic attainment..

What if we homeschool?

If you homeschool, you’ve come to the right place! With extensive experience teaching gifted students and those with diverse learning needs in public classrooms, as well as years of homeschooling children with learning differences, Karen has a wealth of knowledge about curricula in the homeschooling realm. With so many options available, choosing the right curriculum can be overwhelming, and selecting the wrong one can be both costly and time-consuming. Let Karen assist you in finding the right tools for your child.

How do I know if the school is following the IEP?

It is critical for your child's progress that the IEP (Individualized Education Program) is closely followed. We support your efforts by helping you determine key checkpoints along the way. Additionally, we will assist in establishing goals and measurable evaluations to ensure your child is making adequate progress. While IEP meetings are only required once a year, that can be a long time in a child's life and development. We want to support you in opening the pathway to progress for your child.

How do I know if the plan is working?

Your child should be re-evaluated every 3 to 5 years by a psychologist through psychoeducational testing. Updated assessments help teachers and school teams understand how a student is progressing and identify areas that need more attention. Re-evaluations also determine if treatment needs to be modified or if a new plan is necessary. Progress Pathways will assist you in understanding the changes in your child and the modifications that need to be made.

How do I support my kid outside of the classroom?

In the field of education, it's often necessary to supplement what a school can provide. This might involve hiring a tutor for a specific subject or, in more complex cases, seeking a professional who specializes in the area where your child is struggling. At Progress Pathways, we recognize that many learning differences are quite unique and may require a specially trained teacher or tutor. We collaborate with you to assess what services the school can offer, maximizing those resources, while also helping you find the most qualified individuals or strategies within your budget to support your child effectively.

Homeschoolers with Learning Differences

What curriculum should I use?

When homeschooling a typical learner, selecting the appropriate curriculum can be a challenging task. This becomes even more daunting when considering the needs of a learning divergent child. However, we are here to assist you in making the right curriculum choice based on your child's unique profile.

It is often beneficial to incorporate different materials or even varying levels of difficulty in each subject area. By catering to your child's individual learning style, strengths, and weaknesses, we can help create a tailored approach to their education. But it's not just about the student; the strengths and teaching style of the parent or teacher also play a crucial role.

Allow us to guide you towards a pathway that fosters progress and success for your child. We understand the importance of finding the right curriculum that suits their specific needs and ensures a fulfilling learning experience.
